A few weekends ago I had my first experience of the annual Live in Barnsley music festival.

It’s a fantastic event that draws a huge number of fans and visitors to the area, and this year a record number of over 7000 people turned out in the sun to watch the huge number of musicians on offer.

It’s a real showcase of the incredible talent we have in Barnsley, and an event we all should be enormously proud of.

I’ve also joined the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Music to continue my support for the music industry.

This group, organised with the help of my predecessor Michael Dugher, brings together other Parliamentarians and music industry leaders and experts, and provides a forum to discuss the best ways to help musicians, from beginners right through to professionals.

From the Grimethorpe Colliery Band to Live in Barnsley, our community has a rich history of music and I’m proud to represent it in Parliament.
