I had a good meeting recently with Councillor Chris Lamb and Dan Jarvis MP to discuss local flooding challenges.

With some residents flooded twice in the last thirteen years, we need the Government to engage with flood-risk to Barnsley homes and businesses now. This meeting was an important step towards creating a more join-up local approach to flooding.

It is clear, though, that the Government needs to do more to help flood-hit areas both locally and nationally to recover and to prevent future floods. I recently held the Secretary of State for DEFRA to account on the Government’s response to last winter’s floods. It’s unacceptable we haven’t had Boris Johnson’s promised SY Flood Summit.

As Shadow Minister for Flooding I will continue to push for more support for flood-threatened communities both here in Barnsley and across the country.
