People naturally want to feel safe and secure in their homes and when they’re out and about in the area, and our local police forces are vital to this.

But frequently I’m hearing concerns that Government cuts to our police services are making it harder and harder for the police to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour.

Unfortunately, they’re not wrong.

Our local police officers in Barnsley do a magnificent job and they deserve our unwavering support and gratitude.

But this out-of-touch Government has forced unprecedented cuts on the force, cutting resources to the bone. And unfortunately, these cuts are taking their toll on local residents and businesses.

In March this year, there were a registered 953 crimes in Barnsley East, 302 of which were anti-social behaviour.

That’s a rise of 9.7 percent from the same period last year, when 869 crimes were recorded. Even more startlingly, it’s a staggering rise of 19 per cent over the same period in 2015 when 801 crimes were committed.

This simply isn’t good enough, and if elected as your representative in Barnsley East I will fight for a better deal for our local police forces. Labour have committed to funding 10,000 new police officers.

I’ll fight for increased funding and resources, including frontline policing, to help our police make our communities and homes safe and secure.
