New analysis from The Labour Party has shown that 30,000 pensioners across Barnsley Central and Barnsley East will be hundreds of pounds worse off over the next year.

Thanks to rising inflation and the Tories’ decision to limit increases to the state pension by 3.1 per cent, a basic state pension for an individual will be worth around £222 less in real terms in the coming year. For a couple it will be worth around £355 less.

For the Government to make this cut during a cost-of-living crisis where energy bills are rocketing and prices are rising is an insult.

It is clear proof that the Conservatives are simply not on the side of working people or the 30,000 pensioners in Barnsley.

Meanwhile, Labour have a plan to offer real support for families and pensioners, keeping energy bills low through a one-off windfall tax on oil and gas profits.

This plan would see households typically receiving £200 off their bills, with those on the lowest incomes getting £600 off.

Only Labour will always stand up for pensioners, guaranteeing older people the respect, security and prosperity they deserve.
