I am the MP for the Barnsley East constituency. As your MP, it is important that I and my office can keep in touch with constituents about my work, take up casework on their behalf and ask for views on local issues.

This page explains how I collect and use personal data, the legal basis for doing so and provides information about your rights in respect of your personal data for which I am the data controller.

Personal Data

When you contact Stephanie Peacock MP, or engage with Stephanie Peacock MP either online, by post, in person or by other means, we may collect, store and use your personal data.

A variety of data is collected and held by the office of Stephanie Peacock MP. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Names, addresses, personal contact details including email addresses and telephone numbers;
  • Passport details and other personal data related to travel;
  • Personal data you have provided for the purpose of obtaining guidance and support through casework;
  • Information about medical conditions, your health or wellbeing;
  • Images captured, such as photographs and videos;
  • Opinions gathered through feedback forms and surveys;
  • Information on access and use of Stephanie Peacock MP’s premises including CCTV footage, and phone records.

Purpose

Stephanie Peacock MP considers the purposes for the processing to be to:

  • Enable the provision of casework to be undertaken on behalf of constituents;
  • Inform people about the work of Stephanie Peacock MP (e.g. through newsletters);
  • Gather views and opinions to enable proper democratic representation (e.g. through surveys);
  • Enable the safety of Stephanie Peacock MP, staff members, and constituents (e.g. through CCTV and security measures)
  • Support the functioning of the Office of Stephanie Peacock MP.

Lawful Basis

All processing is carried out by consent or under the legitimate interest of public task (democratic engagement, UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e)).  This covers processing to conduct casework, campaigning and communication to support democratic engagement.

Who I share your information with:

When I take up casework on your behalf, it may be necessary for me to share the details you provide with government departments, local authorities and other public bodies. I will only share as much information as is necessary to take your case forward. If you have any questions or concerns about how information you provide as part of a casework request is used, please contact my Data Protection Officer for more information.

Other than in the circumstances above, I will not share personal data with other organisations unless I have a lawful basis for doing so.

Some personal data controlled by Stephanie Peacock MP is held outside the UK. These data are predominantly held in data centres within the European Economic Area (EEA), for the purpose of hosting and maintenance. Regulations under section 17A of the DPA 2018 specify that all countries within the EEA are regarded as providing an adequate level of data protection. If personal data are transferred to a country outside the UK or EEA, the adequacy of that country and the organisations and systems processing the data is assessed to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place.

Retention of personal data

I will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy. Information relating to casework will be retained for 4 years once the case has been closed, although I may retain a minimum amount of information about closed cases in the event that you contact me again for help.  If it is deemed necessary the information may be retained longer than 4 years.

If you have consented to receive information about my work, I will only retain your personal information so long as I am the MP for the Barnsley East Constituency, or you ask not to be contacted further.

I will regularly review the personal information I hold to ensure that its use is necessary and proportionate.

Labour Party

As a Labour MP I also have access to other information which I or my office, or volunteers working with me, will use for campaigning purposes or for communicating with Labour Party members.  In respect of that information, the Labour Party is the data controller, and you should consult their privacy policy (https://labour.org.uk/privacy-policy/ ) for details of what information they hold, why, and how they use and process that information.

Your rights:

You have a number of rights in relation to your personal information and the opportunity to choose how it is used. You have the right to:

  • Obtain copies of the personal information I hold about you (known as a “subject access request”);
  • Request that I correct or update any personal information held about you;
  • Ask that we erase or restrict the way in which I use your information;
  • Object to the processing of your information;
  •  Object to automated processing, including profiling – you also have the right to be subject to the legal effects of automated processing or profiling;
  • Request that personal information you have given your consent for me to use is provided in an electronic format so it can be transferred to another data controller (also known as “data portability”);
  • Complain if our office refuses your rights.

You may opt out of receiving further communications form me in any medium at any time. All requests to unsubscribe are dealt with promptly, and in all cases within a week.
