Stephanie Peacock MP has commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day 2022, marking 77 years since the liberation of concentration camps in Europe.

In the lead up to the day, Ms Peacock invited local secondary schools to hear Holocaust survivor, Eva Clarke BEM, share her story in an online webcast. This provided a rare opportunity for pupils to hear a first-hand account from someone who has been personally affected by the Holocaust.

The MP also gave an address at Barnsley’s Holocaust Memorial Event at Horizon College, where she was joined by Imam Abdul Aazizc, pupils, and members of the community to honour all those who tragically lost their lives.

In Parliament, Ms Peacock signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, recording in writing her commitment to remember all the victims and survivors.

Ms Peacock commented:

“Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from Barnsley to reflect on the darkest times of European history.

“As the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the six million Jewish victims and pay tribute to the survivors.”
