Barnsley East have been rejected for Levelling Up funding twice by the Government, despite being deserving of support by all metrics.
Barnsley Council have put in a third Barnsley East bid based around Elsecar Heritage Centre, for which we are still waiting on the Government to confirm whether or not any funding will be allocated as part of the Cultural Fund.
If successful, funding for Elsecar Heritage Centre would help to deliver on their ‘Forging Ahead’ plan, which would include:
A new heritage railway attraction
A new rail college
Advanced engineering workshops
A major outdoor performance area
Viewing platform across the historic valley
I hope the Government will do the right thing and deliver on levelling up for Barnsley East.
