This Budget was a chance for the Government to unlock Britain’s potential and make a real difference for working people across the UK.

But the Government did not take this chance.

While the Chancellor delivered a tax break for the richest 1%, working people continue to suffer at the hands of this Government.

Real household disposable income is expected to fall by 6%- the largest fall in living standards since records began in the 1950s.

People in Barnsley East are feeling the strain, with over 6,000 children now in child poverty, foodbank usage through the roof, and a third of households in fuel poverty:  see here.

Local organisations and charities do great work to support their communities, but ultimately, we needed more Government action in the Budget.

I voted alongside my Labour colleagues against the Budget.

It’s time for a Labour Government.
